DSF Projects

Novartis Worldwide Research Headquarters
Cambridge, Massachusetts

The DSF Group converted this 500,000-square-foot former candy factory into a state-of-the-art biotechnology facility for Novartis, the giant Swiss pharmaceutical company.

Investment Opportunity
The location, size and physical attributes of the former NECCO headquarters made it an excellent candidate for multiple uses, including major life science companies seeking a large research facility with close proximity to world-class universities and hospitals in one of the country's most desirable biotech locations.

Value Added Strategy
The DSF Group's development strategy was to rezone and convert the property into the largest biotech research facility in the United States. This was accomplished in such a way that made it highly appealing to prospective life science tenants and to the larger community. By preserving the building's historic qualities the DSF Group was able to gain a listing on the National Registry of Historic Places and thereby receive a federal tax credit. Any by using state-of-the-art physical and technical/mechanical methods, DSF was able to create a truly unique and architecturally significant global research headquarters that was leased to one of the world's largest pharmaceutical companies. Subsequently, for strategic reasons, Novartis acquired the property.
